I research, write about and consult on system innovation and social, systemic change.

My focus has always been on making sense of the world around me, with the goal to figure out how we make things better. I want to understand what is going on ànd imagine what we can do about it.
I started my career in social sciences and qualitative research: what drives people? At IDEO and the Institute of Design I got into design thinking, wondering: how can we not only identify a problem but also articulate an opportunity, and come up with a solution? At Philips Healthcare I coached and consulted on human centered design methods, triggered by the question: how do you apply all this in a corporate environment?
Over time I became convinced that tackling the biggest challenges of our time -organising our economy, energy, food, mobility, education, health and care in more regenerative ways- require a radically different approach, taking the system as a whole into consideration. I went back to school at DRIFT's Transition Academy to dive into the theory and practice of societal transitions. ‘On the side’ I studied yoga - believing that our ability to focus our energy and attention is an essential element in addressing these big-ass, complex problems.
I now dedicate my time researching, writing about and consulting on system innovation and social, systemic change.
How can we create a society in which we feel more calm, caring, creative, playful and connected to ourselves, each other and the rest of the natural world?
By connecting the dots and show what is holding us back in seemingly separate areas - like health care and education, energy and food - I aim to create clarity in the ways our systems no longer serve (most of) us.
By highlighting these red threads I intent to inspire the part of us that aspires to think, feel and behave differently - in our personal as well as our professional lives (since we of course only have one life, really).
And by showcasing individuals, teams and initiatives that are already working towards these new futures - forming living proof that change is truly possible - my desire is to create perspective and hope.
So that we cross the divide from realising what we do not want (anymore), to making steps towards what many of us yearn for: a more sustainable, just, and resilient future.
